today on good morning america i heard a brief spot on recent empirical studies of fetuses which indicates that the last month before birth, the unborn baby actually develops memory - in utero babies were subjected to a particular noise during its sleep - initially, the baby would awaken and stretch or move in some way in response to the noise - when nothing else happened, the baby returned to undisturbed sleep - after a period of time of being subjected to this noise, the baby apparently became accustomed to it, knew that nothing was going to happen from previous exposures, and so, continued its sleep undisturbed by the sound -
all of which begs more and more questions about so many things -
and it also reminds me of one of my daughters having told me from her earliest years that she has memories of being in her bassinet and crib - she describes the bassinet and other things - as it happens, i had no photographs of either of these things - so - from where came her memories but from herself?
were the hour not so late, i would venture more down this path of thought - but, for me, night beckons with the prospect of dreams to make - manana, then -

Well, its 10:30 in Ca. and I just finished my work on line and decided to peak at my blog and see any updates.. this caught my eye...My daughter had a memory of before she was born..At 5yrs she woke up from a nightmare..I came to her room and she told me in detail the day I found out I was pregnant..( I was not happy since it was a unplanned pregnancy)she said what I had on, my dog, and a park were I went crying trying to decide...she said she was up in the sky , it was all white like clouds and this man was with her, asking to choose a mom..and she got to look at this big tv screens and see 3 women doing diff things..and she then saw me and said HER.. because she needs me...so he picked her up by her belly and threw her down fromt he sky ( this is what scared her the feeling of falling she said...cus it was so fast and so bright...) I left out alot of details of the story she said..without a doubt she could have not known all these details of the park...I was alone that day..This story was a very special gift for me..I still have the shirt from that day that she decribed in detail..does memory start before birth? maybe so...
This is a fascinating subject. perhaps on another occasion we could hear more?
marlene - what an absolutely incredible story! one so few could tell, i would think - i can just SEE it as you describe the telling of it - how beautiful - do you and she discuss it now? is she an adult? thanks so much for sharing - and you know, actually, your story and my daughter's remind me of the stories that her son [my daughter who remembers the bassinet] has told me since he was about 3 years old - and that is that he flew with the eagles - now, his was in dream form, also, but the story began when he was but a toddler and went for a number of years - his "dream flights" were very detailed and i was amazed at his cognitive ability to even relate it to me - i have his story here somewhere on this blog if i remember correctly - so feel free to drop by if you like - thanks so much for coming by and for the neat story! have a great day!
hi dave - yes, i agree - it is truly a fascinating subject - and now i have to talk to my daughter again about these early memories of hers - it's been a long time since we discussed it so i am curious about what details i may have forgotten, etc - thanks for coming by and leaving a note - and have a wonderful day!
I'll look for this story..His flight dreams could be the rememberance of that flight one takes before they come here. Yes my daughter and I have talked of this dream of hers thru the years...and she refers to it on Mothers Day cards.. always says I am glad I choose you as a mom..We are kindred spirits..and though we live 4 hours apart..we connect in dreams or in our waking thoughts often..she is a very old soul and from early age very sensitive to all energies that are around us..I felt this was good place to tell this special story..my decorating blog..holds only the simple side of my life! have a great day. Marlene
oh forgotto answer one of your ? ..my daughter is 29yrs old..
you could be right about christopher's flight dreams - he is very special - when he was 8-10 years old, he explained parallel universes to me! what a wonderful mother-daughter story that continues - and i am honored that you were able to tell the story here - my children and i are kindred spirits and i believe they are each old souls, too, as are at least some of my grandchildren - how precious to have them in our lives! please come again soon -
One day I will tell you about my mother family..she is French..she comes from a long line of very "gifted" women..these gifts are passed from generations.to the women in the family...the men for some reason are not part of this...One of the reasons I felt confortable sharing is besides your writings.....you look sooo much like my mother...if I find a picture of her I will post it.her family is from toulouse and the canary islands...I am off to work...! take care Marlene
oh, i can hardly wait, marlene, to hear about your mother and the gifts of the womenfolk in her family - and would love to see a photo! enjoy your day - c u later!
It definitely makes you wonder about abortion in a new way, doesn't it? I've always been pro-choice, although not for myself. But now I wonder.
nancy, i know what you mean - i am pro-choice as well but having my own children has also always given me a different perspective - fascinating discovery though, the memory thing...
